  1. A Park near Middleham Castle in Yorkshire.
  2.  Enter RICHARD, Lord HASTINGS, and SIR WILLIAM STANLEY.

  4. Richard    Now, my Lord Hastings and Sir William Stanley,
  5.     Leave off to wonder why I drew you hither
  6.     Into this chiefest thicket of the park.
  7.     Thus stands the case: you know our king, my brother,
  8.     Is prisoner to the bishop here, at whose hands
  9.     He hath good usage and great liberty,
  10.     And often but attended with weak guard
  11.     Comes hunting this way to disport himself.
  12.     I have advertised him by secret means
  13.     That if about this hour he make this way,
  14.     Under the colour of his usual game,
  15.     He shall here find his friends with horse and men
  16.     To set him free from his captivity.
  17.  
  18.                Enter KING EDWARD, and a HUNTSMAN with him.
  19.  
  20. Huntsman    This way, my lord, for this way lies the game.
  21.  
  22. King Edward    Nay, this way, man; see where the huntsmen stand.
  23.     Now, brother of Gloucester, Lord Hastings, and the rest,
  24.     Stand you thus close to steal the bishop's deer?
  25.  
  26. Richard    Brother, the time and case requireth haste.
  27.     Your horse stands ready at the park corner.
  28.  
  29. King Edward    But whither shall we then?
  30.  
  31. Hastings                                    To Lynn, my lord,
  32.     And ship from thence to Flanders?
  33.  
  34. Richard    Well guessed, believe me, for that was my meaning.
  35.  
  36. King Edward    Stanley, I will requite thy forwardness.
  37.  
  38. Richard    But wherefore stay we? 'Tis no time to talk.
  39.  
  40. King Edward    Huntsman, what sayst thou? Wilt thou go along?
  41.  
  42. Huntsman    Better do so than tarry and be hanged.
  43.  
  44. Richard    Come then, away; let's ha' no more ado.
  45.  
  46. King Edward    Bishop, farewell; shield thee from Warwick's frown,
  47.     And pray that I may repossess the crown.
